Do you believe in love? Ha-ha, just a joke. Well, vacations are ahead and it becomes my responsibility to provide you valuable information about the places of India so that you can visit and make your vacations memorable. At least it should be worth to cost you are going to spend for the holidays. Today my target is Honnavar that is a small town of Uttar Kannada State, India. In general, it is the town of Karnataka State popular for beaches and the amazing tunnel route of the railway.
Honnover is located in the coastal area of Karnataka. It has Arabian Sea in West with paddy fields and plain area. Coconut trees, Areca plants on the sea shore and the breeze airflow could be a different experience of life. Evening time is best to spend, though you can enjoy the complete day as its beach town. If you move a little bit in the town you will find Sahyadri hill ranges as well.
Honnavar is having limited areas to visit, but still I would suggest you to plan trips to this place. Accomodation is easily available, as there are several hotels and resorts where you can book the room.
Honnavar is also a Taluk of state that means lots of different spots are added in this region. Once you are here you can attain to several other locations and can spend your valuable time.
Some of the key destinations of Honnavar Taluk are mentioned below:
Idagunji: A very important worship place in Uttara Kannada district popular for ancient temple of Lord Ganesha structured by Narada.
Karikanamma: Another holy location popular for Goddess Kali temple located at Western Ghats of Honnavar. You will love this place because of picturesque surroundings and dense forest.
Apsarakonda: Enjoy waterfall between hillocks at Apsarakonda near Honnavar.
Sharavati River: A risky but beautiful spot of Honnavar Taluk. Be careful as the flow of the river is high and it joins the booommmm Arabian Sea at Honnavar. Boating is possible here and you can visit the islands created by the Sharavati River at several dots. No worry if you are not having much time to spend, don’t forget to visit Mavinkurva as it is the largest and wonder island of Honnavar.
Colonel Hill: Next destination at 30 meters tall columns located on hillock top and NH 17 is the easiest way to reach. Established in 20 January 1845 to tribute Colonel Hill of British East India Company.
Ramatirtha: Next wonder location of Honnavar located at Honavar-Chandavar service lane about 3 km distance. Here you will find the pushkarini (a water tank) 50 steps down the ground level. A rainwater gets stored in the tank and divided in two different tanks Ramathirtha and Laxmanthirtha. According to Myth Lord Rama and Laxmana took bath in this tank during their exile. I am not that religious, but still there are places where Science is also not having an answer of their existence
Kasarkod beach: Located at 2 km distance from Honnavar famous for the sandy beach.
There are many more spots like Keppa Jog (almost similar to Jog Falls), Gerusoppa dense area, Hilly village, Basavaraja Durga (fortified spot) and Hahalingeshwra Temple Uple.
You can easily spend your 15 days holidays in Honnavar, though if you are not a nature lover, then you might get bored here in 3 days.
If you are planning for two or three days holiday, then you can enjoy Apsara Konda Falls, Gersoppa, Sri Karikana Parameshwari Temple, Basavaraja Durga and Kep Jog. Mentioned spots are in Honnavar and all are best of scenery spots with wonderful hospitality.
How to reach Honnavar?
By Rail: Direct lines of Konkan Railway allow you to reach the spot easily. Honnavar station is connected to many big stations of Karnataka so if you are unable to find the direct train from your area, then reach any big state of Karnataka so that you can get a bus or train direct to Honnavar.
By Sea: The Karnataka govr. announced in October 2013 about the several packages and developed the port of Honnavar. It could be a time taking a journey, but you will enjoy as you will get chances to sail on big ships.
