Palitana - Pure Vegetarian City Of The World

Tourism in India has been always surprising because we find different kind of cities with dissimilar features. After long research, we finally got one of the Jain temple city Palitana. The popular thing about the city is this Indian tourist place is declared as one and only 100 % pure vegetarian city of the world. Yes! This is true that Palitana the city of Bhavnagar region, Gujarat is listed as the pure vegetarian city of the globe. The distance of the city from Bhavnagar is just 50 km and famous as a key pilgrimage center for the Jain community.

However, we were not aware that this city is listed as veg, but we were told to throw the stuff at the border of the city by a local commuter. That was a big surprise for me because I have never heard such thing in my whole life. I immediately checked the reviews about the city and found that it was declared “The World’s First Vegetarian City” on 14th August, 2014. This was all effort of Sudhar Sagar the Jain believer and his party members. A long hunger battle until death created the history and Gujarat government declared this touristy spot as a Vegetarian zone of India.

Talking about tourism in the city it is the pilgrim spot and lots of big and small temples are constructed in the city. The city is linked to Jain legends and their bravery history. The first Tirthankar Shri Adinath meditated on Shatrunjaya Hill, Palitana. Later a temple was constructed at such location and today it becomes major part of tourism in the city.

Palitana was declared as a prime city in 1194, though it was the major states of Saurashtra spread in 777 km². In ancient period this Indian tourist place was ruled by Mughal Emperors and was granted to Shantidas Jhaveri the Jain merchant in 1656. Mughal Ruler Murad Baksh was the son of Shah Jahan gave the control of city to Shantidas. However, the temples in the city were constructed by the Anand Ji Kalyan Ji Trust.

Palitana is the only city of the world, having more than 900 temples in the hill. It is the major Tirtha place of Jain people. Nearly 3000 temples are established on Shatrunjaya hills made of white marble.

The Shatrunjaya mount is 591 meters in height popular as the most sacred place of the shrine of Jains. The rock climb of 4 km with stepped path could be difficult for heavy weight people. However, the Doli and lift chairs are available for people who face difficulty to reach the top. There is another way to reach this peak temple and that is an elephant ride. Once you reach the peak you will find nearly 863 marble temples of Jain gurus constructed nearly 900 years ago.

Jasmine trees: Famous as Gulf of Cambay visited by numerous people every year. However, the trees and gulf area is closer to the temples so people who visit this area must not miss the amazingly designed shrines on the peak of the hill. Most of the temples are built of gold, silver and donated jewel items.

Modern Temple: The unique structural design of the Khartaravasi Tuk temple expresses the value of the shrine for people. It is counted largest peak temples with north ridge face towards Chaumukh temple.

Basically the town is not much developed so you will find the limited public and less crowded beach for complete entertainment. Nargol Beach: Most attractive and initial place of village is the beach that is calm, clear and best picnic spot. The special time is early morning when the surrounding is peaceful and soft sunrays comes on the earth. Gujarat is explored to the world as best tourism state, though this town is not much popularized. I don’t know the reason but as per my visit the town is really beautiful. State administration need to give more attention to this place so that tourism can be improved here. It is the less crowded, but the shore and the sound of trees with high speed wind is amazing. I love the adventure spots and visiting Nargol beach is different experience for me. I request the administration to improve more accommodation areas so that more and more people will visit the place and make it big explored city of India to the world.

Mataji Ashram: Nirmala Mata Ji came to this place in 1970 and established the Sahaja Yoga center. This is one of the big centers of such sansthan guiding people about the meditation. Regularly classes are conducted here and people are really getting benefits by doing meditation and Yoga at this place.

Sanjan: Another beauty city closer to Nargol is tourist attraction. Sanjan is only 11 km away from this tourist place and you can find the accommodation at this town if you are facing difficulty for Nargol lodging. There are countless temples and shrines in this place and if you wake up early in the morning you will hear the bhajans easily from your hotel here.

Tumb River: A flowing river with low depth is available for swim closer to this Indian tourist place. You will find the cute surrounding gardens and greenery areas at this river side.

I love traveling to different places and that makes me excited to learn about new destinations. My basic purpose for traveling is to discover such locations that are not explored to the world. India is the prime target as there are countless spots that are yet not known to the world, though these places are amazing and having world’s best attractions. 

Indian tourist place such as Bomdila is my target of the day. Frankly speaking this is the small urban city at good height of 8500 feet from the sea level not developed that much. Key attractions of Bomdila are landscape and snowy peaks. Such peaks are of Himalaya so it’s definitely going to be excited for the travellers.  

Bomdila is under Kameng region having some best attractive spots to visit. However, cool climate could be reason for the travelers and most of the time temperature is low. You can also enjoy the Apple orchards, snow-capped peaks and Gompas of Buddhist community. Few amazing spots of this town are described in this short note so that you can plan if the place is suitable for your holidays or not.  

Attraction in Bomdila:

Sessa Orchid Sanctuary: A park founded in 1979 is initial place to visit in Bomdila. This sanctuary is spread in 100+ square km area and Doimara & Tenga are two dense forests that you can enjoy here. This could be real jungle experience for you because the cottages in the forest are amazing. Deep valleys and high hills view are few more impressive part of this park. Ethnographic Museum and Craft Centre: Learn history of Bomdila town by visiting museum. However, you are getting some handmade craft items at Craft Centre as well. You can buy hand woven carpets, wall hangings, traditional masks and many other products from this craft centre. People come to Bomdila use to buy dragon designed carpets. 

Tipi Orchidarium: A place that lies close to River Bharali is our next target of Bomdila. Arunachal Pradesh claims for major orchid ranges in our nation and Tipi is one of the key orchids in such list. There are nearly 50000+ orchid varieties here in Tipi including few rarest species. The big part of this orchidarium is some new hybrid types are developed by our scientists in their orchid research centre. You can also enjoy the rafting and fishing services in Tipi Orchidarium.

Pangot: Hill Station of Uttarakhand

Pangot is the small but striking Indian tourist place comes under Kumon region, Uttarakhand. However, this hill station is only 13 km away from another stunning spot Nainital of Uttarakhand.

Winter is preferred by the experts as visitors can enjoy the heavy snowfall occurs from November to February. Temperature goes minus 8 degree Celsius in winter so if you want to get chilled then go Pangot in winter. You must carry the worm clothes in summer as well because the average temperature of this place is between 10 to 25 degree Celsius. Peak season of Pangot is from June to September, though July to August should be avoided. 

Some nearby places that are famous closer to Pangot are Haldwani, Ukhimath, Dharchula, and Almora.

Nallamala Hills: A Dense Forest of Andhra Pradesh

People from India is having special attraction for hill stations. Today we will discuss about the hill station known as the Nallamalas (also recognized as Nallamalla Range). Nalamala hills are basically in Kurnool region that spread to Mahabub Nagar, Prakasam, Guntur, Chittoor and Kadapa districts of Andhra Pradesh, India. 

This Indian tourist place is parallel to the coat Coromandel. Pennar and Krishna are two big rivers in this region and Nallamala hills are located between these two rivers. The two big peaks of this hill range are Bhairani at 1100 meters distance from the sea level and Gundla Brahmeswara at 1048 meters level.

Climate is almost hot of Nallamala and the average rainfall is 90 cm. Monsoon is better period to reach here as the temperature get quite manageable and greenery is spread everywhere. Srisailam: The Initial place here is Srisailam that is a holy place, big power project area as well as dense forest area. Krishna River is the biggest source of electricity generator as the dam is constructed on this river at two different places. Sarisailm is one of them having large hydroelectric power station. By Road: If you are reaching in your own vehicle then get the highway of Vijayawada to Guntakal. A route is good, but covered with dense forest so be careful when you drive especially in night. Buses for Srisailam are available from almost every city of Andhra Pradesh. 

By Rail: Closest railway station for Nallamala hills are Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
